Retaining & Seat Walls
Dry-stacked and mortared walls that hold grade, define terraces, and turn a slope into usable yard, with drainage handled properly behind them.
A retaining wall is a drainage project with a stone face on it. The part you see is the easy part; the base, the compaction, and the water path behind the wall are what decide whether it is still straight in fifteen years.
What goes in behind the wall
Compacted structural base below frost-sensitive material, free-draining gravel backfill, filter fabric so soil does not clog it, and a perforated drain line daylighted where the water can leave. Skipping any of it is why leaning, bulging walls are so common around here.
Turning a slope into yard
Two or three shorter terraces usually beat one tall wall — better looking, easier to plant, and often cheaper than the engineering a single tall wall requires. We will lay out the grade change with you on site and show where the usable flat space lands.
Equipment on site
We bring our own skid steer and compaction equipment, so excavation, base placement, and stone handling all happen with our crew on our schedule. No waiting on a rental yard once the job is started.
